Treating Gum Disease

Are your gums sore? Do your gums bleed when you eat, brush or floss your teeth? Many think that treating gum disease is painful and requires surgery. This is simply NOT the case. In fact, with most patients, simple root planing and scaling with local anesthetic and some antibiotics is all it takes.

Once the disease is under control after a few weeks, it is recommended to return to the office for cleanings every 3 months. Why every three months? Because that is how long it takes bacteria to set up a new niche of colonies in the gums and that’s when their colonies must be destroyed.

So don’t be afraid of gum surgery because chances are, you will only need deep cleanings.
